On July 12th the AIC’s Jeremy Murdock and Dan Sumner traveled to the Turlock offices of American AgCredit to present an overview of the University of California Farm Costs and Returns studies.  Murdock and Sumner discussed the purpose and background of the studies, how they are conducted and plans for improvement with a group of approximately 25 senior analysts, underwriters and a couple of interns.  The objective of the gathering was to provide American AgCredit a deeper understanding of how the data in the studies are collected so that the cost and return studies could be a more valuable tool for the lending process.  We learned that American Ag Credit uses the studies continuously in their lending operations.  The session helped AIC collect feedback from the lending industry to help better serve California agriculture. The American AgCredit staff expressed appreciation for the studies, had many penetrating questions and offered useful suggestions.
