At the U.C. Agricultural Issues Center Marcia Kreith's responsibilities are diverse and include the planning and coordination of studies, grants, conferences and publications. She also conducts research, writes reports and provides general editorial input.

Since its conception, Kreith has been AIC's principal staff to the Agricultural Marketing Resource Center (AgMRC), the Iowa State University, Kansas State University and University of California Agricultural Issues Center consortium that focuses on value added agriculture.

Kreith was highly involved in planning the Center's major study on Exotic Pest and Disease Policy. She implemented and coordinated the project, and provided liaison to more than a dozen interdisciplinary research teams consisting of biologists, economists and policy professionals. The study developed science based, public policy relevant information for a non-specialist public. Designed to quantify the effects of non-indigenous pests and diseases on California agriculture, natural biological systems, urban landscapes, human health and the economy, the study developed analyses to evaluate costs and benefits of control and exclusion programs for a number of pests and diseases. A public conference, summary reports, briefings and a major book resulted.

Prior to joining the AIC staff in 1992 Kreith worked for UC Davis Public Service Research and Dissemination Program and for UC Cooperative Extension. Her emphasis in those project design and coordination positions was on water policy and global climate change issues.
