AIC’s Karen Jetter and Bill Matthews speak at California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers Convention

Over 80 attendees participated in the 2016 CANGC Convention which was held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Mandalay Beach Hotel & Resort. Kicking off on Thursday with a tour of two nearby nurseries and a keynote by the State Climatologist, the Convention included educational programming and networking opportunities and was deemed a success!

At the end of the general session, Dr. William Matthews, Researcher at the UC Agricultural Issues Center, spoke on the economic importance of the nursery industry in California agriculture and the broader economy.

Karen Jetter, an Economist with the UC Agricultural Issues Center presented on the Economic Considerations for Citrus Nursery Growers. Kim Wilenius, C&M Nursery shared some of the implications to their growing operation and solutions devised to meet quarantine regulations. Nawal Sharma with CDFA’s Emergency Quarantine Response Program presented on how CDFA’s efforts to control the spread of ACP/HLB are framed to be least disruptive to intrastate delivery as well as where to find information for nurseries on ACP/HLB on the CDFA website.
