Subsidies Have Little Influence on Food Prices

Daniel Sumner and Julian Alston, economists at the University of California, Davis, have done a lot of work here, and Sumner says subsidies have made corn and soy “slightly cheaper.” Alston estimates that we can attribute 8 to 14 extra calories per day to farm subsidies.
